Heat exchanger

Heat exchanger

The PRIMIX spiral mixing elements is the basis of the PRIMIX heat exchangers, which can be used to heat and cool products in-line. Due to its sophisticated construction, the PRIMIX heat exchanger adopts a unique position between the actual shell and tube heat exchangers. All PRIMIX heat exchangers are designed and manufactured to customer specifications. The heat exchangers are also available for the treatment of high viscosity liquids.

  • Possibility of special mixer-collector connection, allowing a true plug flow
  • Improved heat transfer, resulting in 30 – 40% lower weight
  • Lower pressure drop in the product and on the service liquid side
  • Lower volumes and shorter dwell times

Basic features

Spiral heat exchangers – faster cooling, better mixing

The spiral-shaped element design naturally deals with an increased heat transfer – up to a factor 3. This is caused by the strong radial flow which causes an increase in the cooling velocity on the inner walls of the process tube.

20 to 100% more heat transfer

The Advanced Connection Technology (ACT) applied between the tube and the mixing elements has a heat transfer resistance equal to the resistance of the tube and element base material. Due to this feature, the surface of each mixing element starts to behave as an additional heat exchange surface, which, compared to conventional heat exchangers, improves heat transfer by 20 to 100%.

The static mixer heat exchanger is suitable for difficult media, e.g.

If a standard tube and plate heat exchanger is no longer functioning properly, the spiral elements of the heat exchanger come into play. The stretching and folding of the liquid layers has a positive effect on heat transfer.

Functionality of heat exchangers; working pressure, process temperature and viscosity

The functionality of each type of heat exchanger is largely determined by the applied working pressure, the process temperature and the viscosity of the product. The desired capacity is achieved by choosing a certain constructive size or by connecting several heat exchangers in parallel.

Product Range Static Mixer Heat Exchangers

PRIMIX heat exchangers can be made, for example, from the following materials:

  • Carbon steel (low temperature) and low alloy steel, e.g. A106 Gr. B, A333 Gr. 6, A335 Gr. P11, etc.
  • Stainless steel, e.g. 316L(1.4404), 304L(1.4306), 321(1.4541), 316Ti (1.4571), etc.
  • Duplex and superduplex (1.4462)
  • Exotic materials such as: alloys, Hastelloy®, titanium, nickel, Incoloy®.

Surface finishing of heat exchangers
The heat exchanger surface can be finished, treated or cleaned to your specifications. Several treatment techniques are:

  • Staining and passivation
  • Glass grinding and shot blasting or sandblasting
  • Polished finish for a perfectly smooth surface
  • Electropolishing
  • Chrome
  • Ultrasonic cleaning
